Overview

The math for the pulleys is pulled from my Flat Belt Pulley page and my Coal Breaker page 3 which in turn was compiled from “A Treatise on Belts and Pulleys” by John Howard Cromwell published 1888. Like the title suggests also belt information. The Diameter of a Pulley is dictated in part by the desired end-speed of the shaft it is on (the other part being the driving pulley diameter and speed). The width depends on the belt width – and the belt width is calculated by the HP transmitted, RPM and pulley diameter to get Vm and P which you can then use the ‘Width Table’ on page 3 to find..

Pulleys

Below are the list of pulleys needed. I am fully aware that the names are a bit confusing and I will work to fix that issue – right now just want to get them listed

  • Coal Breaker Pulley : This is the pulley on the breaker itself. I am designing for the larger breaker which requires 45 hp. I have data on breakers down to 10 hp on my Coal Breaker page.
  • Coal Breaker Drive Pulley : This pulley takes power off of the Jackshaft and drives the Coal Breaker Pulley.
  • Coal Breaker Belt Elevator Head Pulley : This pulley is fitted to the Coal Breaker Belt Elevator Head Shaft to directly power the Elevator.
  • Coal Breaker Belt Elevator Head Drive Pulley : This pulley shares a shaft with the Coal Breaker Belt Elevator Drive Sprocket. It drives the Coal Breaker Belt Elevator Head Pulley.
  • Refuse Elevator Head Pulley : This pulley is on the Refuse Head Drive-Shaft and is powered by the Refuse Elevator Head Drive Pulley.
  • Refuse Elevator Head Drive Pulley : This pulley powers the Refuse Elevator Head Pulley, taking power from the Coal Breaker Drive Pulley on the Jackshaft.
  • Refuse Elevator Drive Pulley : This pulley powers the Refuse Elevator Head Pulley and is on the Jackshaft.
  • Power to WCBE Drive Pulley : This pulley powers the WCEB Head Drive Pulley.
  • Jackshaft Head Pulley : This pulley takes power from the Jackshaft Drive Pulley and powers the Jackshaft.
  • Pump Pulley : This pulley is mounted directly on the Pump.
  • Jackshaft Drive Pulley : This pulley is mounted directly on the engine and powers the Jackshaft Head Pulley.
  • Pump Drive Pulley : This pulley is mounted directly on the engine and powers the Pump Pulley.
  • WCEB Head Pulley : This pulley is mounted on the Washed Coal Elevator Belt Head Shaft.
  • WCEB Head Drive Pulley : This pulley provides power to the WCEB Head Pulley.
